- Tall and elegant, with harmonious features, a proud look and brown curly hair, Nelly Cormon was a French theater actress of classic beauty who was very successful on stage for three decades and had a brief but honorable career in silent films at the time when cinema was beginning to become more artistic, not just a fairground art. Born in the center of France to a teacher and his wife on 15-12-1977, young Nelly studied music and drama at the Conservatoire from a young age and left it a prize in hand. In the wake of it, she started performing and soon landed important roles in major theaters (the Gymnase, the Théâtre Sarah Bernhardt, the Théâtre des Arts, the Théâtre Fémina) as well as on tour in Lisbon, London, Nancy, Brussels and other towns. Among the plays she graced with her presence can be counted "Pour la Couronne" (François Coppée), "Samson" (Henry Bernstein), "Le Maître de forges" (Georges Ohnet), "Le Retour de Jerusalem", "La Barricade, "Le Réveil", "Mademoiselle Josette, ma femme", "L'Homme enchaîné", "Napoléon IV"... Cinema also occupied her for a while (from 1910 to 1918) when she starred in two dozens quality films for the Film d'Art company. On several occasions a historical figure (Madame de La Bédoyer, Marion Delorme, Joséphine de Beauharnais, Madame Récamier), she showed the extent of her talent by being in turns the evil Milady de Winter in Calmettes and Pouctal's "Les Trois mousquetaires" (1912) and the truthful Mercedes, Edmond Dantes' fiancée, in "Le Comte de Monte Cristo", also directed by Henri Pouctal, also adapted from Alexandre Dumas (1915). But after a new interpretation of the courtesan Marion Delorme in 1918, the cinema parenthesis closed, probably at the end of her contract, and Nelly Cormon's reappearance in "Madame Récamier" ten years later remained without follow-up. The actress naturally went on with her successful theater career until she retired by the end of the 1920s. Curiously, from then on, all track of her is lost. Nobody knows yet where she lived and died despite serious research on the subject. A mystery probably due to the destruction of the municipal archives of the place where she lived. Whatever the case may be, Nelly Cormon will be remembered as an actress who featured greatly during the first quarter of the twentieth century.

Emile Couzinet (b. 1896)was the owner of several movie theaters in the south west of France ..He had an idea which was (and to this day remained) unique:he made his own movies which were shown in his theaters .He did not care about what Parisian critics thought. The only man of the French cinema who was a writer,a director,a producer ,a film distributor, a cinema owner and manager;he had his own studios and ,like Ed Wood in America ,he often used the same actors ,particularly Jean Tissier and Jeanne Fusier-Gir . His output is hopeless.Coarse comedies abound in his huge filmography:"Le Don D'Adele (1950)told the unspeakable story of a farm girl, almost excommunicated by the local priest."Le Curé De Saint-Amour" (1952) was the tale of a priest who helped the lovers ,provided they did not sin before the wedding."Quand Te Tues-Tu?" (1953) a remake of a thirties comedy ,dealt with the problems of a bourgeois ,who could get a rich inheritance ,but he had to marry a widow or the money would go to a brass band ."La Famille Cucuroux(1953) featured broke aristocrats ,a leopard and an American Indian cousin."Mon Curé Champion Du régiment'(1955)found him going out at a peak of unbelievably corny stuff:a priest ,armed up with a breviary and an umbrella became a military boxing champ. His titles spoke for themselves .His last effort "Le Medecin Malgré Lui" (1962) was high culture: Molière's play!.Couzinet died in 1964,his works have become French guiltiest pleasure,so to speak.- Costume Designer

Mickaël Baudin was born on 14 September 1989 in Bourg-de-Péage. He is an actor and director, known for Dilemme (2021), Les réservistes (2016) and Publicité contre les appels de phare (2015).- One of the very few actors to have spent more than a hundred years on this earth and to have performed his art until he was over 90, Roger Karl (1882-1984) was an exceptionally gifted person who could have become an artist ('Pablo Picasso' was a friend of his) or a writer (he was close to Guillaume Apollinaire and Paul Léautaud, eventually putting pen to paper with a book of memoirs, "Journal d'un homme de nulle part"). Bur Roger Karl finally opted for acting, studying drama at the Conservatoire de Paris first, then at the Odeon. Throughout his long career, he appeared in prestigious plays (Molière 's "L'amour médecin", Jules Romains's Le roi masqué, Albert Camus's "Le malentendu", William Shakespeare's "Henry IV and many many others), with prestigious partners (among whom the legendary Sarah Bernhardt) under the direction of prestigious directors (Jacques Copeau, Louis Jouvet, Jean Vilar ...) But although theater was a passion and despite the fact that he had always expressed his preference for theater over cinema, Roger Karl did not miss out on a film actor career, debuting on the silver screen as early as 1909, which was an exception among 'serious' theater actors of his kind only to say his professional goodbye 65 years later in a 1974 TV movie. A much more uneven career than his stage one, both in terms of quality and steadiness (he indeed made only brief and sparse appearances after 1946), it is not without high points though, notably the five films directed by famous avant-garde director director Marcel L'Herbier: Phantasmes (1917), Man of the Sea (1920),The Living Image, or the Lady of Petrograd (1926) and The Devil in the Heart (1927) and L'Argent (1928), two of which are eternal masterpieces (L'homme du large" and "L'argent"). As a tough Breton fisherman, the desperate but uncompromising father of a good-for-nothing, Roger Karl proved particularly convincing, which earned him a lot of authority figures such as bankers, police commissioners, bishops, nobles and other ministers. The trouble is that well as fine-looking with gravitas Roger Karl played them, it was often in conventional bourgeois dramas which have not stood the test of time, especially during the thirties. Nevertheless a few films have fared better and are still exciting to see today, like Misdeal (1928), directed by Jean Grémillon alongside 'Charles Dullin' and wife, Julien Duvivier's ,The Golem: The Legend of Prague (1936), Under Western Eyes (1936) Oddly enough, while the quality of the films Roger Karl improved in the early forties, the military types he continued playing were on the wrong side of history. He was indeed a German officer in Christian-Jaque's excellent adaptation of Maupassant Angel and Sinner (1945) and in Maurice de Canonge 's more indifferent resistance drama Mission spéciale (1946). After that, Roger Karl more or less vanished from the screens while going on with a remarkable theater career. For all that, it remains undeniable that, even if films were not Roger Karl's artistic priority, his contribution to the seventh art is not to be overlooked.
